East Valley Partnership perspective hqdefault

There are few things that unite all of us like supporting the men and women who keep our homes, families and communities safe every day. Thank you to the community for passing Prop. 124.

Prop. 124 addresses the very real and increasingly urgent issue of ensuring our community’s fire fighters and police officers have a retirement—for themselves and their families—today and in the future.

Today, the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) is seriously underfunded and, if left as is, would mean that PSPRS could only fund half of our state’s public safety personnel when they retire.

Half.

That isn’t an option.

Prop. 124 saves Arizona taxpayers more than $1.5 billion over the next 30 years by improving a flaw in the current PSPRS system. The cost of living adjustment for pension benefits—for the past 20 years—has included a nearly 4 percent compounded pay out every year for cost of living. With the passage of Prop. 124, the cost of living percentage would be adjusted to more realistically follow inflation based on metropolitan Phoenix-Mesa consumer price index and capping at 2 percent.

By passing this bipartisan amendment, we ensure the future of the PSPRS system, end the crippling impact of pension spiking on the system and relieve resources to enhance our public safety operations for Arizona communities.

We ask you to join Governor Ducey, fire fighters and law enforcement associations, Republican and Democratic legislators, and cities and counties throughout the state in supporting Prop 124.
